The Philippine Media Network Service Cooperative (PMNSC) and the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA) are joining forces to conceptualize a vocational training program aimed at providing construction and manpower skills to rebel returnees and other disadvantaged sectors in the Philippines.
The meeting, held on May 7 at the Padilla Building at the Ortigas Complex in Pasig City, was attended by PCA President Ronaldo Elepaño, PMNSC Chairman Ret. Brig. Gen. Gerry Zamudio, Director Andy Vital, Executive Directors Ariel Fernandez and Francis Alpas, and training providers from DMCI and another training institute.
During the meeting, Elepaño expressed his enthusiasm about PCA partnering with the PMNSC and suggested entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to solidify the partnership. The collaboration will also involve the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, and other partners.
Aside from the training provider partners, the AFP is expected to provide training venues across its military engineering units throughout the Philippines and offer soldiers who have been certified as instructors to support the program. The project’s primary objective is to equip rebel returnees and other disadvantaged individuals with basic construction skills, ultimately leading to employment opportunities for those who successfully complete the program.
The PMNSC has conceptualized this collaborative effort with various government agencies to operationalize the training program effectively. By bringing together the expertise and resources of multiple organizations, the PMNSC aims to create a comprehensive and impactful initiative that will benefit those who have been affected by conflict and face challenges in securing stable employment.
Gen. Zamudio said the partnership between the PMNSC and the PCA is an important step towards easing the reintegration of rebel returnees into their communities, helping to promote sustainable peace and development in the Philippines.
